Hi, my name is Austin, Owner of Virginia Improvements LLC. I was hired along with other businesses to complete this job. I had a fun time working on this project and making this video. Thanks for watching!
This project started in December 2023 & was completed in January 2024. The Jericho Bridge is approximately 550FT Long. Has roughly 1100 Decking Boards and 3000 Pickets. The remodel was performed due to safety concerns from a fallen tree. Also, Rotten decking boards and handrails. Visit Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, Va. to check it out!
I was brought in to help with a remodel for a few days, and we got right to work on demo. We tore out rotten subfloor and joists, only to find a crawl space full of sewage build-up and badly damaged lumber. Each day, we made sure that trash trailer left full.
What might feel overwhelming to some is just another challenge we’re ready to take on. In just a few days, we uncovered most of the problem areas and started forming a solid plan for the remodel.
By the time this project is finished, it’ll have brand-new floors, an updated bathroom and kitchen, a crawl space sealed with a proper vapor barrier, and much more. I’ll keep sharing updates as my help is needed.
Over the past few days, we’ve been providing help and hands-on experience on this remodel. A lot of progress has been made in a short time:
-Removed damaged siding and re-sheathed several walls with plywood.
-Took out additional rotten flooring and hauled out trash and old ductwork from the crawl space.
-Discovered the crawl space had been used as a wheel and tire storage area. *You never know what you’ll find under a house!
-Removed the top layer of soil to clean up after a previous septic leak.
-Installed 7 tons of # 411 gravel in the crawl space, grading out low spots and leveling the area.
-Installed a new vapor barrier across most of the crawl space.
-Replaced a beam that was not set at the proper height, bringing it back to correct level.
-Installed new joists in three bedrooms and a bathroom.
-Removed and replaced rotten band boards and sill plates.
-Took down the rusted gutters for a fresh start.
This home still has repairs left to complete, but we’re glad to take on the challenge. With proper PPE and determination, the work is tough but rewarding.
